Walk the World 2010

End Hunger: Walk the World” will take place on Sunday June 6th. Last year 360,000 people walked in 210 locations, raising enough money to provide school meals for one year to more than 20 thousand children in the world’s poorest countries.
What is Walk the World?
End Hunger: Walk the World is an annual event to raise money and awareness for WFP’s efforts to fight child hunger and malnutrition. The Walk is a joint effort of WFP and its corporate partners, led by TNT, Unilever and DSM. Employees from these companies walk with WFP staff and beneficiaries, celebrities and VIPs as well as government and NGO partners to show their solidarity in the fight against hunger and malnutrition. The walk is a 24-hour relay with participants in each of the world’s time zones walking five kilometers. It begins in Auckland, New Zealand and finishes in Samoa.
Walk the World Isang Hakbang Pilipinas 2010
Isang Hakbang, Pilipinas 2010 is our share of this massive global effort, a call to participants – private, government, corporate and individual partners, to take one single step as one nation to help end hunger in conflict-affected areas of Mindanao. This year’s big event will be held on Sunday, 6 June 2010, from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Bonifacio Global City, City of Taguig. 15,000 walkers and runners are expected to converge and declare a pledge of commitment to help end hunger in the Philippines. The event will likewise feature “Isang Hakbang,” a song performed by WFP National Ambassador KC Concepcion. Listen to the song here.
Outside Metro Manila, smaller events will also be organized in Marawi City and Cotabato City to highlight the partnerships WFP is having with local governments, NGOs, and the private sector. The 2 events will be organized by WFP staff in the two sub-offices in Iligan and Cotabato.
It only costs 10 pesos to give a Filipino child a nutritious school meal, give them health, education and hope for a better future. Join END HUNGER: WALK THE WORLD Isang Hakbang, Pilipinas 2010 today and make a difference! Register here.
