Join END HUNGER: WALK THE WORLD Isang Hakbang, Pilipinas 2010 today and make a difference! Register here.
What is Walk the World?
End Hunger: Walk the World is an annual event to raise money and awareness for WFP’s efforts to fight child hunger and malnutrition. The Walk is a joint effort of WFP and its corporate partners, led by TNT, Unilever and DSM. Employees from these companies walk with WFP staff and beneficiaries, celebrities and VIPs as well as government and NGO partners to show their solidarity in the fight against hunger and malnutrition. The walk is a 24-hour relay with participants in each of the world’s time zones walking five kilometers. It begins in Auckland, New Zealand and finishes in Samoa. In the Philippines, Walk The World Isang Hakbang Pilipinas will be held on June 6 at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.
WFP’s School Meals Programme
Since 2003, all proceeds from this event have been donated to WFP’s Global School Meals Programme, which provides nutritious food as an incentive to bring children to school and keep them there. In the Philippines, the event has been supporting more than 75,000 school children in 428 schools in conflict-affected areas in Mindanao.
Who are the convenors of Walk the World Isang Hakbang Pilipinas 2010?
WFP is the world’s frontline organisation for hunger solutions. This year, WFP will feed about 103 million people in around 80 countries. WFP returned to the Philippines in 2006, and has since supported more than 200,000 children through meals provided in the school and through take-home family rations. The Government of the Philippines works with WFP through the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
TNT is a global mail and express delivery company serving more than 200 countries. Since 2002, TNT has been an active partner of WFP and to date has invested over $50 million in the partnership.
Unilever is one of the world’s leading suppliers of fast moving consumer goods with strong local roots in more than 100 countries across the globe. Unilever joined forces with WFP in January 2007 for a three-year partnership to improve the nutrition and health of poor, school-aged children around the world.
Walking the World
Since its inception in 2003, Walk the World has grown to become a global event, bringing together over 2 million participants and raising millions to feed poor children in school. Each step taken is a step closer to ending hunger. View our gallery of past walks and WFP programs here.
ISANG HAKBANG: WFP NATIONAL AMBASSADOR AGAINST HUNGER KC CONCEPCION for WALK THE WORLD PILIPINAS
Actor, Singer and TV Host KC Concepcion is one of WFP strongest allies. As National Ambassador, KC has gone to Mindanao to visit with the beneficiaries of the WFP school meals program, participated in walks here and in other countries and continues to spread the word about the fight to end hunger. Another ongoing project is KC’s Closet, an online auction of KC’s gowns and other clothes, shoes and bags. Proceeds of the auction will benefit the school meals program as well. KC Concepcion will once again help promote Walk the World Isang Hakbang Pilipinas 2010 through radio commercials and TV guestings and will join 15,000 runners and walkers at the Bonifacio Global City on June 6. She will also perform “Isang Hakbang”, a song written for Walk the World Pilipinas by Harold Clavite of the UN – WFP Philippines. Listen to “Isang Hakbang” here.
